Is There a Magic Answer?

There are days that go by when I’m excitedLogan on his new bike to post and update to the blog and  decide not to, thinking that it may not be what people want to hear. Bah, I started this blog as a journal of our lives and what we’re up to, I didn’t start it with a concern for what people want to read. So from now on I’m just going to make that post and sort it out later. Enjoy!

Since I was released from Physical Therapy I’ve been going on a Run/Walk every other day. On Sunday I ran quite a bit more than I walked and did 3.4 miles, that’s a mile longer than my longest run so far. I only ended up having to walk 3 times for a couple of minutes each and then followed it with a 4.5 mile walk. Logan and Christa followed/lead on their bikes and it felt different not being alone while I ran, in a good way. I’m also able to run my 2.4 mile loop with having to stop twice. My knees are feeling great, now my legs and lungs are getting the workout that they should.

On the days I don’t run I do minor strength training, stretching and visit the YMCA twice a week. The beginning of the year I wrote about getting back in shape and we had a bit of a slow start as I had seen previously, you know, work out for a week or so then forget all about it? Well it’s been two months now and exercising has become a habit, I truly feel lost if I come close to missing a day.

There’s no magic answer to getting into shape and becoming healthy and it’s by no means an overnight deal. We still have a long way to go but they payoff has been the the comments people make when they see me and notice the weight I’ve lost. More than that, the energy I have – it seems I can never stop moving and it’s awesome!  Somebody at work asked me how I do it and I told her; I quit smoking. Quit drinking coffee and eating sugar. Totally changed my diet and I canceled cable. I had her attention until I got to the part about canceling cable tv. “But what do you do?” she asked. I  laughed.

The couch is the last place I think about, I rarely spend time on the computer when at home and instead of television we work on our meals together while in the kitchen, we do yard work together, we go to the beach almost every weekend, we go on bike rides, walks and daddy runs and we exercise. We do everything together and we don’t avoid sweating or getting our heart rate up – we actually look forward to it!

Life is too short to spend not being outside enjoying it. For the past two months we’ve actually proven that’s where we want to be and we’re loving every minute of it!
